To examine and advance the contribution of a Christian vision of life to human flourishing and the common good within the academy and contemporary culture.
The Rivendell Institute at Yale is dedicated to examine and advance the contribution of a Christian vision of life to human flourishing and the common good within the academy and contemporary culture. Our intention to explore the intersection of Christian faith and contemporary scholarship brings into focus two significant considerations. How does Christian faith speaks to the ideas, issues, and concerns of contemporary society as these are formulated in our colleges and universities? How can our academic institutions become places where voices of faith contribute as conversation partners in the formation of scholars and leaders?
The Rivendell Institute was created to take up these and other questions as servants to and within Yale University. Through our research, writing, and teaching we aim to cultivate an intellectually responsible, and responsive, Christian faith that will stimulate others in their scholarly and professional work. Through our lectures, forums, and colloquia that we host, we seek to enrich the environment on campus by providing opportunities for thoughtful engagement with issues of the age from a faith perspective, and to do so in the spirit of public conversation. Through spiritual formation we aim to cultivate the faith of Christian students and faculty as they undertake the challenge of living out their convictions in their professional lives.
