Holding forth a Christian vision of life at Yale and beyond

Established in 1995 at Yale University, the Rivendell Institute seeks to examine and advance the contribution of a Christian vision of life to human flourishing and the common good within the academy and contemporary culture.

Our main areas of work are our Programs that inspire and equip new generations of Christian leaders and academic research Centers that explore the intersection of faith, contemporary scholarship, public policy, and the arts & sciences.

Programs

Over the years we have refined our mentoring ministry into programs designed specifically to help Christian students and faculty invest their lives in the service of Christ and the world.

Spiritual Formation

The Spiritual Formation program is a fellowship for graduate and professional students and postdocs that meets weekly to address the unique spiritual challenges in academia. A biblical view of integrating academic pursuits, personal lives, and faith is explored through scripture study, faculty lectures, retreats and personal mentoring.

Student Fellows

Rivendell Student Fellows is a yearlong, selective program that equips graduate and professional students and postdocs to integrate the fullness of their Christian faith with their various academic and professional callings through seminars, colloquia, retreats, and mentoring.

Faculty Roundtable

Funded by a grant from the Templeton Foundation, these dinners foster discussions that explore the intersection of contemporary academic thought with the big questions of science, ethics, worldview, research and teaching that touch upon every aspect of the scholarly endeavor.

Centers

Our Centers focus on scholarship in strategic areas of the arts, the sciences, and public policy, by bringing to bear the mission of the Institute to these specific disciplines.

Rivendell Center for Theology & the Arts

The Rivendell Center for Theology & the Arts (RCTA) facilitates cross-disciplinary conversations among scholars, artists, and theologians about issues of human existence which matter to us all.

Center for Track Two Diplomacy & Religious Freedom

The Center for Track Two Diplomacy and Religious Freedom (CT2DRF) brings together scholars and faith–based leaders to examine the teachings of Christianity and other faiths that can contribute directly to improved relations and respect between faiths concerning international religious freedom at the civic level and to provide a possible consensual pathway toward policy change at the political level.
