Seminar 3: “Prayer and the Resurrection”
with Isaac Choi, Rivendell Visiting Fellow
Both the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus and present day answered prayers can significantly strengthen the Christian’s faith in God. The evidence for the former is more public, while the latter is more private and local. But we can understand the impact of the evidence in each case in similar ways, including using similar Bayesian probabilistic considerations (a gentle, non-overly mathematical introduction to Bayesian confirmation theory will be given). We will also look into the weakness of alternative explanations such as hallucination and coincidence, and the relative lack of impact of unanswered prayers. The talk will be followed by a time for questions and discussion.
